As I gently fishtailed my way along Lincoln and 38th avenues yesterday evening, I felt very lucky to be about the only motorist on my route. No one to crash into. No one to crash into me.
All the
Let It Snow and
Baby, It's Cold Outside on the radio got me thinking that it would be fun to walk into work today. When I arrived home to find a car stuck outside my garage, I considered it a sign.
There was just enough room for me to squeeze/shovel my way in, and, two numb hands later (my gloves were dirty, so I didn't wear any yesterday - ha!), I succeeded. I thought the car would be better off there than in a wayward car's way.
This morning I bundled up, proud of myself for losing 15 pounds this fall and thus having extra layering room in my snow pants. I shoveled between the garage and my back door and between the front steps and the sidewalk. Then I headed east from near 38th & Federal.
Some 78 minutes, 3.24 miles (by cubicle neighbor
Brendan Leonard's calculation) and zero falls later, I arrived at work at 15th Street & Clevland Place. I got to see a couple folks cross-country skiing, others sharing insider information on where they found an open coffee shop as well as a man laughing at his walking partner for falling twice. Here are some photos of the trek, largely made possible by people with bigger feet than mine clearing the route first.
