What's black, white and brown all over?
If you came up with some clever and vulgar answer to that question, I commend you (I couldn't think of one), but I was referring specifically to my new dog.
Townes (as in
Van Zandt), in addition to being a 12-week-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, is in hot contention for the title of Most Adorable Thing Ever.
We met
Sarah's parents (Sarah=my gorgeous/awesome girlfriend)
Ann and
Bill in Fort Morgan Friday night so we could beat the "storm" that was bearing down on the metro area, which was downgraded from Class Five Killstorm to Mild Inconvenience after we went to the trouble.
He's part of the fifth (count 'em,
five) and probably final litter produced by Sarah's dogs in Yuma,
Winston and
Sophie, so we had to grab our chance.
He is feisty, curious and about 90 percent housebroken (don't ask), and I plan on taking no fewer than 17,000 photos of him over the next few months, so you will be very aware of his progress into adulthood.
If you aren't familiar with the breed, this
FAQ, and the fact that its
Wikipedia entry contains the phrase "love sponge," does a pretty good job summarizing how awesome they are.
But if you're in a hurry, I'll include the best section of the whole document:
Q: Are Cavaliers good guard dogs?
A: No. While Cavaliers will alert their owners to the arrival of someone new, they seem to regard all strangers as friends they haven't met yet. Although a noisy greeting might be enough to ward off a prowler, it is difficult to picture anyone being scared off by a Cavalier.
Ladies and gentlemen, that's my dog. Expect way too many photos and mundane details in the coming weeks and months.
Do you have a new two-, four- or no-legged addition to the family you'd like to share?
