As if drug dealers haven't already pawned their computers, Google AdWords apparently has zero-tolerance for allegedly drug-related pay-per-click ads. I found this out first hand today when I created a new ad campaign for my client Speed of Wealth(for whom I have been running ads for the last 4 months or so). The Google AdWords narc sprung this alert on me (see attached)!
Good thing I'm self-employed, or this would've looked pretty incriminating to an office passerby. And with Google's rule of guilty until proven innocent, I then had to supply an explanation as to why I am not a drug pusher.
Now let's think about this for a minute: close your eyes and imagine your typical drug dealer (and by "your", I mean "not yours, you're just holding it for a friend".) Does this stereotypical thug even have a computer, or pay for Internet for that matter? Does he have such trouble unloading drugs that he must resort to mass online marketing? Does he have a valid credit card that he wouldn't mind using to pay for such a campaign? Does he take the time to research effective keywords and target demographics? I'm thinking the answer to all these questions is no.
So come on, Google-- give us the benefit of the doubt. Us web marketers are good, trustworthy people. We just wanna drive traffic to your site, not put your child on a meth mailing list. Our goal is to boost SEO, not LSD. So cut it out with these red flags!
