An enemy was in my presence last night. She had the nerve to enter my home.
Her name is
Chenine and this is the second time my so-called friend has beat me at predicting the most Oscar wins.
Though I made a far superior showing this year compared to our bout in 2005, it is no less humiliating. This year, Chenine had 13 correct and I had 12. Friends
Gretchen,
Amanda and
Gabe did worse than we did, so their friendship is not in question.
I thought this would be my year, as I saw 14 of the nominated films. Five of those in the last two days. Where did I go wrong? With my supporting actor and best picture picks I suppose.
I decided supporting actor favorite
Eddie Murphy didn't deserve it after I saw
Dreamgirls yesterday, so my vote went to
Djimon Hounsou for his performance in
Blood Diamond. That darn talented actor
Alan Arkin got it instead. And for best picture, I selected
Babel, which I loved, over
The
Departed, which is still marked as long wait on my
Netflix queue.
But where disappointment in ego-boosting exists there are also remnants of contentment after having a splendid evening with friends. Key to the plot was a Cobb salad bar (the dish is
apparently a Hollywood original ), hummus and crackers, wine and champagne and 2 ½-month-old cutie
Sam in tow.
Here is a complete
list of the winners. Have you seen an exceptionally good or bad movie lately? Post a review.
