On most rainy days such as this, you'd find me on my couch watching a movie or napping. Reading a book would be my goal, but it wouldn't happen.
But thanks to
Andrea Furness at
Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods Inc., I actually showered, left my house and enjoyed a sampling of the Denver music scene. Today was the first of CHUN's official auditions for the Capitol Hill
People's Fair, and Andrea invited me (and the rest of the YourHub staff) to be a VIP media judge.
I judged from 12:30 to 3:40, seeing 15 of the 80-ish acts perform two-song sets. Rules were to judge the performers based on quality, originality and stage presence. A one is the lowest score; five is the highest. No threes allowed. Whole numbers only.
I can't sing or play an instrument, so I let my ears, hips and feet guide me. Click through the photos to see what I wrote on my ballot.
The top bands I saw were
Remember May and
Vices I Admire. According to their Web sites today, you can find the first band at
Lion's Lair on April 6 and Vices at
15th St. Tavern on April 20.
The
Ultimate Music Xperience is open to the public and free at
Bender's Tavern on
Capitol Hill, and it's going down today and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. If nothing else, go for the bar's drink specials and sponsors
99.5 the Mountain and
The Onion 's swag.
You canfind out who shined at the auditions when the People's Fair takes place June 2 and 3 at Civic Center Park in Denver.
