Blog Entry 12 of 83 North Denver Doorbell
Greetings. I'm the editor at YourHub.com and I use this blog to share what's going on in my 'hood and beyond. If you're curious, the North Denver Doorbell is the regular honking we hear in our neighborhood as motorists approach alley intersections or when they don't feel like getting out of their cars to politely knock or ring a doorbell.

Lettuce the new bagged spinach?
Contributed by: Fairlight Baer/YourHub.com   on 9/22/2006

A couple weeks ago, I discarded my unopened bag of spinach. I had purchased it and three or four other bags a few weeks earlier and experienced nary a stomach ache with the bags I did use.

But I decided throwing away $3 was a better option than getting deathly ill with E. coli poisoning.

Fast-forward two weeks and join me in a game of Guess the Foreign Object.

Today, I'm having taco salad for lunch.

With the leftover ground turkey all set, I cut up half a tomato and rinsed off some non-bagged Romaine lettuce this morning.

Tearing up the lettuce, I noticed a thick, translucent item on one of the leaves.

"Is that skin?!"

Mid-gag, I also thought it resembled the cellulose we used in high school science classes.

I was alone at the time, so I could only take some pictures to share on the YourHub.com blogosphere hoping a kind reader could solve the mystery.

Maybe it's time to go back to bagged spinach?

It's the awesome goodness of vegetables. Egad. This is why I'm currently on a strict coffee diet.

I can only hope that e. coli is actually that big so I can see it when it comes for me.
