Blog Entry 85 of 126 Gladys Mercier, Arvada.
I like living in Arvada.I am a member of Trinity Baptist Church and have many good friends there.I lived in the same house in Denver until I married, so as you can see, I am a native. My husband and I adopted 2 Korean sons who are now adults, 1 is a State Patrol Sgt., the other is an upholsterer. My husband died Sept.1st,2005. My family is a real blessing to me.I will probably write most about them, especially my great grandchildren (3)

Help While Help will Still Help.

How can someone starve a child to death? How can they lock a small boy in a closet with no food or water. Little Chandler Grafner is now being honored with balloons, flowers, teddy bears and a head stone on his grave from caring people.

Why couldn't anyone see that he was not being taken care of and fed? Didn't anyone noticed that he was no longer around, outside playing with his friends?
I wonder how many kids we are not paying attention to in our busy lives.
My stomach actually hurts when I think of Chandler and yet his step father and step fathers' girlfriend must have sat there and enjoyed their dinners while he suffered.

Blows your mind, doesn't it? How could they? If I understand correctly, his grandmother had tried to get custody of him but was denied and he was given to his step father instead. Does this make sense? Not to me.
If they wanted to be rid of Chandler so badly, there are lots of loving people who would have adopted him .

I wonder how long he suffered before he died.
I wonder what any of us could have done for him had we known.
We will never know now. We will put flowers and balloons on his grave and soon we will read about another child that has been abused. More flowers, more balloons.
I am angry.

These two people (I REFUSE to call them 'parents') also worked in a restaurant where they were both allowed to buy meals at half price and to take home unused food. To me, that adds insult to injury. But I believe in karma. There is a special place somewhere really warm for folks who do this to children.

I agree with you; however, my dislike of the child protective services and their calling ahead to abusers which allows them to take time to clean up their kids and hide the evidence is more wrong than bad hair plugs.

Thanks for saying what we were all thinking, Gladys. It's mind-blowing and sad that we get so busy in our own lives that we can't stop long enough to see and/or help a child in need, but we have time for teddy bears and flowers.

I hear you, Gladys. The story of Chandler Grafner is so horrific I want to look away. Yet, that is exactly what allowed two monsters charged with his care to torture and starve him until he died.

The most precious thing in my life; my child. How could any person or step-parent allow this to happen?

I'm with you, Gladys. I know it may not be very Christian of me, but I'm glad to know that justice is often found within the prison walls for those who hurt children. Hardened criminals are not known for their compassion toward child abusers. Here's hoping.
