Blog Entry 92 of 118 Gladys Mercier, Arvada.
I like living in Arvada.I am a member of Trinity Baptist Church and have many good friends there.I lived in the same house in Denver until I married, so as you can see, I am a native. My husband and I adopted 2 Korean sons who are now adults, 1 is a State Patrol Sgt., the other is an upholsterer. My husband died Sept.1st,2005. My family is a real blessing to me.I will probably write most about them, especially my great grandchildren (3)

Post-Thanksgiving thanks

Thanksgiving turned out to be much more exciting than Ron, Patty and I thought. My grandson Ronnie Jr. called to tell us that my great grandson Angel was coming from Albequerque! He is such a cutie and we have enjoyed him so much. Angel is 11 years old.
My son Don and his family live in Walsenburg and rarely come on holidays. They decided years ago to make their own family traditions, which I respect, but that meant no more going to grandmas. I have always been welcome there but I have to consider my family here so I don't get there much on holidays.
Bob has been gone over 2 years but I still miss him, especially at this time of year. One of the hardest things about losing a spouse is going on with the celebrating anyway and remembering how it used to be.
Christmas is the most difficult. I still see things in the stores and think that he would like that.
Ron has been reminiscing about one Christmas when the boys were about 9 and 11. They wanted a go cart so much but that was way beyond our budget.....until Bob found one that was in pretty bad shape. He bought it and we hid it in the dark room he had downstairs where the boys were not allowed to enter.
Bob worked on that go cart for months, putting in a new motor, tires, etc. Then he painted it. It looked like new when he was finished.
We were so excited we could hardly wait for Christmas morning. Even the neighbors would come over to see how the go cart was progressing.
The boys' joy that Christmas morning made all the work worthwhile. They were
so happy to see that go cart.
We took lots of movies of them driving it at the track but when we watch the movies now, we notice that most of the time Bob was driving it!
What a fun time that was.
