I like living in Arvada.I am a member of Trinity Baptist Church and have many good friends there.I lived in the same house in Denver until I married, so as you can see, I am a native. My husband and I adopted 2 Korean sons who are now adults, 1 is a State Patrol Sgt., the other is an upholsterer. My husband died Sept.1st,2005. My family is a real blessing to me.I will probably write most about them, especially my great grandchildren (3)

Music to My Ears.
Contributed by: Gladys Mercier   on 4/14/2008

I picked up a copy of Prime Time for Seniors the other day and was surprised and pleased to see an article written by one of my favorite writers, Stan Dyer.
I wonder if that paper would print my stories since Your Hub doesn't anymore? Ah well,I enjoy writing on the hub anyway.
The article was about how music has influenced our lives and how some songs can bring back so many memories.
That is certainly true for me. Bob liked western music, as opposed to what is called " country" now and I also liked it. He played guitar and had a good voice so we did a lot of singing at our house.
When we first married, Bob had a stack of old records that he had brought back from overseas when he was in the Air Force. He really treasured those records and kept them stacked on top of a book case. One day, I was dusting, and tried to lift the stack down but dropped them instead and broke several of them. He was unhappy but didn't divorce me!
We loved Wayne Newton and collected his albums. Whenever I get a chance to see his show, I go, even if I have to drag my kids along in Las Vegas.
I have a stack of sheet music from the 40's and 50's that I could never part with. One day, way back when, an old boyfriend wrote something by the title of each one, such as on " I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now" he wrote " When may I ?" Cute, funny things that bring a smile to me. I 'll bet none of you remember that song or movie. I loved it.
I have to be careful now when a song comes on that reminds me of Bob. I cry easily and don't need to cry anymore.
My son Ron tells me that he is glad that he grew up with so much music. He loves all kinds and keeps me well supplied with CD'S that he makes me. My son Don also makes CD's for me with my favorites. I love southern gospel so I have a lot of those.
I had always loved a song from the operetta, " The Chocolate Soldier", Come, come, come be my true love, come be my own. I think the title is " My Hero".
I had that song sung at our wedding in 1953 so it is special.

I too grew up with music and was able to keep much of it. People laugh at my collection of albums, but, even though they are considered obsolete technology, I love them. I still have a number of 78's, Classical albums and show tunes.
