Blog Entry 112 of 126 Gladys Mercier, Arvada.
I like living in Arvada.I am a member of Trinity Baptist Church and have many good friends there.I lived in the same house in Denver until I married, so as you can see, I am a native. My husband and I adopted 2 Korean sons who are now adults, 1 is a State Patrol Sgt., the other is an upholsterer. My husband died Sept.1st,2005. My family is a real blessing to me.I will probably write most about them, especially my great grandchildren (3)

Some Things Never End.

I met my friend Alyce in Wiggins, Colorado for lunch on Saturday. Alyce and I have been friends since we were about 10 years old when her family moved in by mine. We became fast friends right away, walking to Swansea school together and then going on to Cole Jr. High.
Alyce was more outgoing than me and she attracted boys like crazy. Not to mention that she had beautiful blond hair. She was always laughing.
She would come over to my house a lot when we were kids and my mother would get so exasperated with her and tell her to go home. She would, but would be back within a half hour.
As we grew older, we went roller skating a lot, at Derby rink and also at Skateland and Mammoth Gardens. What fun we had, we were so carefree. We thought nothing of riding the bus home late at night. Our mothers never worried about us.
We went trick or treating on Halloween and had bonfire parties in her back yard.
We went to sunday school together, double dated and played games with the neighborhood kids.
Finally we had to grow up. I got married and stayed in Denver. Alyce married a farmer in Fort Morgan and has lived in Orchard, Co for years, loving the farm life. My boys loved to go there when they were small, they could drive the truck with Alyce's kids! A real treat for them and something they could never do in the city. They told me that one kid would steer while the other pushed the gas peddle and one the brakes. Good thing I didn't know that until years later!
Alyce and I have kept in touch all these years but it has been more difficult to see each other with all the family responsibilities. I care for my disabled neice and her husband is disabled now.
When we found the chance to meet on Saturday, I drove to Wiggins to meet her.
What a great time we had talking about our childhoods and friends and all the fun things we did.
I was reminded again how much she has meant to me. I cherish her and also my friends here. I am thankful for all of you.
