Blog Entry 94 of 97 Charmaine in the city

I've called the Denver area home for more than two
decades now. But this urban/mountain city is still full of surprises. I'll be posting my adventures here, as I explore local eateries, shops and sharing birthday and vacation photos. And once in a while, I'll throw in a music, movie or food review. I hope to keep this blog interactive, so don't be shy to suggest places I should visit. And check it out: I'm on Brendan's List. Rock on!

June is a month for celebrating fathers
Contributed by: Charmaine Robledo/YourHub.com   on 6/4/2008

Looking at my calendar, Father's Day is set for June 15. I haven't gotten my dad a gift yet, and I usually wait until the last minute to do any shopping.

My one saving grace, however, is that my dad is pretty easy to shop for. He loves books and has a huge library at home. His collection can be troubling come moving time, since the books become a weight issue. And my dad always donates a box or two of books to the local library.

But each year for Father's Day, I buy my dad either a book or a gift card to Barnes and Noble. Previously, I've tried to change it up, giving him a leisure robe similar to what Hugh Hefner wears or a DVD of a military movie (he's also a history buff).

I hope this year I can get him something great. Maybe another book, maybe a gift certificate for indoor skydiving. But the thing about Father's Day is not about buying the perfect present, but recognizing the role dads play in our lives.

This column is a tribute to my dad, for being a book-loving, understanding, patient and caring father. I'd love to read tributes to fathers online and in these sections. Post a story online and they could end up in the June 12 print edition. And, as always, you can ring me up at 303-954-2465 if you need help submitting your stories and photos to YourHub.com.

Very nice tribute. Though my dad is no longer with us, I still feel his influence and remember his plain-spoken wisdom as he helped raise a large family.
