Blog Entry 5 of 83 North Denver Doorbell
Greetings. I'm the editor at YourHub.com and I use this blog to share what's going on in my 'hood and beyond. If you're curious, the North Denver Doorbell is the regular honking we hear in our neighborhood as motorists approach alley intersections or when they don't feel like getting out of their cars to politely knock or ring a doorbell.

Bottles are unwanted sight on neighborhood strolls
Contributed by: Fairlight Baer/YourHub.com   on 7/31/2006

I live very near a liquor store, and the resulting foot traffic can make my yard a dumping ground for the vessels that the store's patrons manage to empty in their first seconds after exiting said store.

However, in recent weeks, there's nary a Bud Light or Pucker mini outside my door.

I decided folks walking by no longer were discarding the bottles there because they were so impressed with the xeriscaping. Or maybe the hot weather has them driving to the liquor store and just tossing empties into their backseats.

Maybe. Maybe not.

But just two houses up the street, the sightings begin.

Crunch. Crack. Crunch.

As I slowly wake up on my morning walks, I imagine this would be the sound should one more mini liquor bottle be cast on my neighborhood sidewalks.

Have Hiram & James or DeKuypers started a buzz marketing campaign I don't know about? Are their drinks now so powerful that they cause plants to resemble a trash bin?

I carried my camera on a couple walks this month to share my sightings. Rest assured that I collected and recycled all the photographed bottles.

Hey Fairlight- you met my husband yesterday as he walked back from the aforementioned liquor store. We were hoping that Starbucks would come and buy that place up, but it looks like they decided on the corner of 44th & Federal instead. Anyway, your efforts of picking up and recycling the bottles is definitely appreciated by your neighbors! (So is your xeriscaping, I must add)

As your near neighbor, I can definitely relate. We currently have an empty 40 and a few airplane bottles in our xeriscape. I leave them there for decor. Then, when I leave my PBR can on the front porch, my wife blames the neighborhood. Strategy.

Walking my kids to school, I always find beer bottles. When they were little, I wondered about some curious looks. I realized moms were taking note of the beer tucked in a stroller, heading home for recycling.

Good for you, is there any cash in recycling those cute little bottles? LB-P I'm a big fan of yours now and in the early days too.

Anymore, when Judy and I go for walks, we take trash bags with us.

My friend Molly will be very pleased that you recycled the bottles you found. Glad you're a fellow blogger, too.
