Blog Entry 202 of 344 Father Knows... Something. Let's figure out what.
This is my outlet to share with the world all the things I've learned - and continue to learn - about being the Father to 3 young children. But I should warn you that my experience is probably NOT yours: my wife and I adopted a sibling set of 3 - all 6 years old and younger - while in our 40's. We've heard that, "it keeps you young," but so far, it has mostly kept us tired... But like any parent, our kids teach us something new every day and I hope to share at least something here with you as I can. The entries will be short - time constraints will probably keep it at or around a mere 200-400 words - but as they say, brevity is the soul of wit. Let's hope I can create some brevity here. So if you read something you like, please leave a comment. If you read something you don't, please just leave. (Just kidding - I'd love to hear from critics as well.)

Continuing problems. Continued

Even at gunpoint I would be unable to tell you how often I've heard that my youngest son, (The Binkster), either looks or acts like me. It's remarkable in several ways but perfectly boring if you're a part of the "adoption community."

Still, it boggles my mind. After all, so much of today's belief is that we're completely controlled and programmed by our DNA - our "blood" - and that any other factor is relegated to the back burner.

Well I'm here to tell you that it's simply not true; one's environment plays as much - or as deep - a role in childhood development as one's DNA structure does. And I'm prepared to prove it, should it come to that.

The truth of the matter is that The Binkster has already adopted (strange use of that word, I suppose), several of my own mannerisms and even a certain portion of my sense of humor in his own personality.

After careful consideration, this is not completely unexpected. After all, how would he learn a certain behavior except through witnessing it? How else would he know how a slide works except by watching his older brother demonstrate it?

But could someone please tell me why The Binkster is a night owl and D-Man is an early riser? Genetically they're swimming in the same pool and they are of the same sex.

So what's the difference?

Chris Stone is a slightly different - hopefully better - Father and man than he was yesterday...

My 2 adopted boys are from Korea and yet they act a lot like us. They are also very different in their personalities. No one ever told me they looked like me though. That would have been a compliment.
