Blog Entry 36 of 96 Charmaine in the city

I've called the Denver area home for more than two
decades now. But this urban/mountain city is still full of surprises. I'll be posting my adventures here, as I explore local eateries, shops and sharing birthday and vacation photos. And once in a while, I'll throw in a music, movie or food review. I hope to keep this blog interactive, so don't be shy to suggest places I should visit. And check it out: I'm on Brendan's List. Rock on!

Happy birthday, Corrine
Contributed by: Charmaine Robledo/YourHub.com   on 1/19/2007

On Jan. 18, my buddy Jessica and I took our good friend Corrine for a special birthday dinner at Maggiano's Little Italy on the 16th Street Mall. Corrine's actual birthday is on Jan. 21, but we celebrated early because Jessica was going to be out of town this weekend.

The evening didn't start off that well because although Jessica had made 7:15 reservations for us, we weren't seated at our table until about 7:45. Walk-ins were being seated before us. We were not amused.

Dinner, however, made up for the delay as we munched on bread dipped in olive oil, lasagna, eggplant parmesan and angel hair pasta covered in marinara. The night ended with deliciously rich birthday truffles. There goes my New Year's resolution.

Corrine loves to cook, so for her birthday I gave her this antique-looking butter slicer in addition to some jewelry. What is a butter slicer you ask? Why, it's a rectangular tool with thin wires in the middle that will cut your butter into those cute little cubes. It's pretty sweet.

Happy 26th birthday, Corrine, one of my best girlfriends. I'm looking forward to another year of good times and happy memories with you.

My mom would rather get transfat in margarine than cope with hard butter. Now I know what to get her.

Good bread dipped in good olive oil is one of life's great pleasures.
