Blog Entry 36 of 100 Bad Mom
I call myself Bad Mom because at the time I came up with it, I was learning about the assumptions we put behind our words. I was following the pattern of not believing that my kids are okay, and speaking to them from that basis. I changed that, and it made a big difference. I am from Utah and my people are still living there. My husband was in the Air Force and we rattled around until we saw Colorado, and we stuck.

Bonnie Found Herself a Tasty Snack
Contributed by: Lisa Arata   on 11/19/2007

I walk my corgies every day, and whenever I can I let them loose. Yesterday we went over to the high school because the grounds are large and nobody would be there to stop us. High school kids drop all kinds of interesting things on the ground. The dogs sniff out edible tidbits. I don't mind them eating a little bit of hamburger bun. It's better than coprophagia. Yesterday on the front lawn under some trees, Bonnie and Keira found something tasty.Keira walked along, chewing her bits up, and then Bonnie found something even bigger. It was large and dark gray and Bonnie wouldn't let me have a look at it. That's when I knew I needed to see what that was in that mouth of hers. Corgis are funny little rascals, but hard to catch when off leash, even with their short little legs. I chased Bonnie around in circles for ten minutes until she finally gave up. She probably didn't like the taste of it anyway--it was a disembodied bird's wing. So nasty! It smelled like foot cheese on steroids. I took it away and immediately started wretching. I put it on a crumpled up, discarded drum head so I could hold it farther away from my face. If anybody had been watching from a distance they'd have seen the whole dog-chase-and-wretching-trip-to-the-dumpser story acted out. Then Bonnie comes up to me and I'm putting her leash on, and she licks me on the face. Lessons: To a dog, the word 'stink' carries no bad connotations. And, don't take dogs to high schools.
