Blog Entry 64 of 66 Bad Mom
I call myself Bad Mom because at the time I came up with it, I was learning about the assumptions we put behind our words. I was following the pattern of not believing that my kids are okay, and speaking to them from that basis. I changed that, and it made a big difference. I am from Utah and my people are still living there. My husband was in the Air Force and we rattled around until we saw Colorado, and we stuck.

Drunken Bloggin' III

Drinkin' and Bloggin' takes longer than reg'lar bloggin'.

First I'll tell you about the bar in Waycross, Georgia.

Waycross is the gateway to the Okefenokee swamp. It's a well-intended but sort of defeated Southern town. But there's Karaoke at the Holiday Inn bar, and the dude that runs it sings like he oughta be in Lynrd Skynrd. Is that spelled right? I couldn't believe the kharmic wonderfulness. They love that music as much as I do, and it's kind of theirs more than it is mine.

One of my goals on this road trip I just got back from was to sing karaoke. I almost sang "You're only lonely" by J.D. Souther but I ended up going with "I Try" by Macy Gray, because it was easier. Now one of my goals in life is to sing "The Bi*ch is Back," at Karaoke.

We also went to a really, really, cool and beautiful bar called Cheers, in old downtown Waycross, and met a bartender named Kay, a woman in her fifties. She was a goddess of Southern...ness. The bar was empty, and that was a shame but it was a Wednesday night in a hard-luck town...I guess that'll happen.

Also in Waycross, Georgia, we stopped to take a picture of a rusty car graveyard, and a State Trooper pulled up and I opened the car window and he 'us jist checkin' ta see if e'rthang's awrat." Priceless.

Yes, folks, I finally went on that road trip that me and my friend Christine had talked about for years. I can't even tell you everything. I'll try.

Well, it was a lovely place. I wanted to buy one of the beautiful Queen Anne houses and fix it up. I wanted to open a shop. Oh well, another lifetime.

I prefer the karaoke fantasy "Queen B****" by David Bowie. ("She's known in the darkest clubs/pushing ahead of the dames.") I hate to be an enabler, but I'm enjoying the drunken blogging.

"a well intended but sort of defeated Southern town". I love it! One of my very first (or was it the first??) concerts i went to was in 1974 with Lynyrd Skynyrd (You missed a "Y" LOL), Peter Frampton (Do you feel like I do-oooh?), and Santana. One of my fantasies is singing the Wizard of Oz song "If I were the King of the Forest" to a stunned karaoke crowd.....someday.
