Blog Entry 68 of 145 Bad Mom
I call myself Bad Mom because at the time I came up with it, I was learning about the assumptions we put behind our words. I was following the pattern of not believing that my kids are okay, and speaking to them from that basis. I changed that, and it made a big difference. I am from Utah and my people are still living there. My husband was in the Air Force and we rattled around until we saw Colorado, and we stuck.

I hurt a friend. Sober blogging.

This is to tell you that I wrote what I thought was a retelling of my friend's amazing life.

However, she or someone she knew ran across it while googling. She read it and then called me, angry, and told me to get her name off of Google and any other reference. What I'd done could be considered libel. I am doing that and anything I can. Any advice would be appreciated.

Folks, this web presents problems some of us aren't prepared to handle. In complete contrition I own what I wrote and feel that my friend, or former friend, as the case may now be, is justified to be angry.

I used to have some entrenched righty views, which I posted on a website, and years later when I Googled myself they were still there, only I didn't see it the same way. Anyone who googles me, whom I hoped to befriend, who read my views, would get a different view of who I am, than who I really am.

But what I did with my friend's good name is different. It's much worse, because she had no control over what was written and I essentially gossiped to the whole world.

I spill my guts to the world, but I should not have done so about her.

This is one thing I can think of doing to at least bring one shred of good out of what I've done.

A ruined friendship is still a relationship of sorts, and now I have to go sit with what's happened.

There is a way to bury a name on the nether pages of a search engine. But I don't think my person will let me talk to her.

P.S. There's no removing a name from a search engine.
