Being an advocate for singles, it amazes me how society has forgotten singles as a target market. Many businesses want to target the family with the big house and two cars. However, there are many singles that have houses, cars and probably more toys and discretionary income than the family. And with the single population growing each year, it is amazing how the singles are not kept in the loop when it comes to discounts, deals, etc. Usually the deals are targeted to couples or two or more. Singles have to pay more for travel, entry fees to events and more.
The biggest overlook I see is with the religious organizations. Many churches are missing the boat when it comes to targeting singles. Singles want to find someone of the same faith and will seek out a church that they feel comfortable meeting other singles. However, when I do searches on the internet, most churches do not even recognize singles as a group in their church. They will have resources for the family, but not for the single person. However, there are millions of singles who want to find a mate and preferably one that have the same belief systems.
I would like to encourage churches to start setting up a support base for singles in their church. Find someone to head up a group to meet at least monthly so singles can get to know each other. Also, maybe have workshops or bible studies set up just for single people. They can recruit singles by hooking up with single clubs or other churches to get singles together. I feel churches could do so much more to bring in singles into their congregation/ The churches would find a lifelong member if these people found the love of their life who goes to the same church or believes in the same faith.
