Blog Entry 66 of 66 Bad Mom
I call myself Bad Mom because at the time I came up with it, I was learning about the assumptions we put behind our words. I was following the pattern of not believing that my kids are okay, and speaking to them from that basis. I changed that, and it made a big difference. I am from Utah and my people are still living there. My husband was in the Air Force and we rattled around until we saw Colorado, and we stuck.

Drunken Bloggin' again.

Okay, this time I'm not very swizzled. I'm just feelin' fine, drinkin' Jerry Garcia wine.

Today, I'd like to write about an interesting experience that happened to me Tuesday.

I got a job at Happy Life Nursery in Evans. The two owners Sue and I can't remember his first name, have been at it for 8 years. They are super people! I'm happy with them. I haven't ever liked a job this much, though my summer as a park aide in Donner Memorial State Park, Truckee, CA came close. I basically move plants to advantageous areas of the greenhouse, and water, and break off spent flowers, and keep everything looking appealing to customers, and show them where their specific wants are located, and repot plants that have grown too large for their pots.

I was supposed to have Monday and Tuesday off. I couldn't stand it!

You may not know this to look at me, but I dwell in existential despair. I loved being a mommy but now my kids find me obsolete and my husband travels most of every week, and I have been through a midlife crisis. So I've been an unhappy person for many months now. Don't worry, I'm dealin' with the feelins.

I did okay Monday. However, Tuesday morning, the whole day loomed ahead of me. I had no social arrangement. All I could look forward to was frickin' laundry, or web surfing, or grocery shopping. All day in my own miserable company. The only "out" was work. So I went in for four hours, knowing they'd have a crunch of customers and shipments and watering needs on such a hot and sunny day, and I could be distracted from Lisa.

I thought to myself, "my God. I'm going to work to get away from my life." I'd never had that experince before. Is that normal.?

The only thing better that I could think of is painting. I can't explain why applying pigments to a porous surface fillls the hole in the middle of me. Except, I don't paint as much as you'd think I should, considering I'm a housewife and I work part time. it's just easier to web surf.

Oh yeah, I found another thing that fills the hole: buying bedding plants and sticking them in the dirt in the backyard. This house came with a really, really nice rock-walled back garden. I love plants. Their needs are so simple: Room for their roots. A little nitrogen and stuff; air. water. sun. They don't need sex, nor career training, nor goals in life. Refreshing.

I hope that in the future I can undertake work that keeps my mind pleasantly occupied, and that I will be giving to life the thing that is my gift to give. Right now? Ech. I'm trying!
