Do you ever wonder… Why sheep don’t shrink when it rains? I honestly do. Here you’ll find no rhyme (unless I’m feeling poetic), reason (unless I have one) or consistency (unless I accidentally post the same thing twice) in my cyber contributions. I’ve long ago accepted defeat to my arch-nemesis Punctuality, so expecting postings on a structured basis is discouraged. I do, however, invite you to check in periodically as I write about things that pique my interest while prowling the city. As a photographer this blog may also be frequently used as an outlet for pictorial expression. If you have a thought or two of your own bouncing around the old noggin, I recommend starting up your own blog and giving everyone the no-holds-barred account of life in your corner.

Seems an appropriate topic for a starter blog.
First off, I'll just admit it...yes I'm one of The Transplants. I know, I know - strike one. But seeing as I have an apartment in Capitol Hill, a downtown job and no desire for another 16-hour car ride with my cat anytime soon....I guess you're all stuck with me for a while. (Yes, I said cat - not dog. I know, I know - strike two.)
I'm a born and raised Michigander, meaning I hail from Michigan...in the U.S....not Canada. Although I have been known to say 'eh' every now and then. So be it.
So how'd I go from sea-level to mile high? Well let me take you back...
(You can't tell, but I'm waving my arms and making the dream sequence/flashback noise remnant of early-90s sitcoms)
Believe it or not, being a journalist in Denver was not the topic of my first, second or even third "When I Grow Up" speech in elementary school. I went through phases of wanting to be a veterinarian (too much science), an entrepreneur (start-up funds lacking), a cartoonist (I can't draw...I'm also not that funny) and an FBI agent (I can't even handle scary movies).
Eventually I decided just to do things I really enjoy - writing and photography. I studied journalism at Michigan State University and got my degree. My family has been coming to Colorado to ski for a long time and I always wanted to try life out west. At that point in time, however, my pocketbook emitted only moths and the occasional dime, so moving was out of the question. I took up a post as a photographer and writer in Smalltown, Michigan. After about nine months, I saved up enough cash (well not literally, who uses cash anymore anyways?), quit my job and made the drive.
I've now been here about six months and recently braved the DMV to become an official resident. So far, I've learned a few things about life in this state - lessons I'm sure many of you Coloradoans already know, but hopefully can relate to.
- Pay attention to the street sweeping days on parking signs
- Just because you can have three beers at the Coors factory doesn't mean you should - especially if you drove yourself
- To avoid public ridicule and/or death never admit you're a Red Wings fan
- Riding a bike on the sidewalk will get you dirty, dirty looks from pedestrians
- Don't look directly at the gold-domed Capitol on a sunny day
- Sunscreen is your friend at 5,280 feet
- Bars with carpeted walls don't spell S-H-A-G...they spell T-R-O-U-B-L-E
- Be sure to keep your eyes on the curvy mountain roads even if you are trying to point out big-horned sheep to visiting parents
- Strap a pillow to your back if you ever get challenged to a wheelchair softball game by the Rollin' Rockies in case of repetitive backwards spills
- Last, but not least, I've discovered that Denver is a fascinating city with something new to experience every day and interesting, friendly and active people to share those adventures with.
As a journalist for YourHub.com I really get to explore the different metro areas and I'm looking forward to getting to know the city better. I'm planning on sharing my thoughts about life in general and in specific here in this blog. Cheers!

Very nice "Rules of Colorado"... I've compiled my own list of you know you're from Parker when.... I should post on my blog. I figured I should say hi since we almost have matching names and my husbands family is from up North too. I have TWO cats, Cat Rule! So that is not a strike... and worse than saying your a Red Wings Fan is that you are an Oakland Raiders fain... Just thought you should know that since it's BRONCO season.. :)
