What's your neighborhood's walkability score?
Contributed by: Brendan Leonard/YourHub.com   on 8/7/2007

A few people have forwarded me the link to this web site in the past week. Walkscore.com, through some complicated algorithm, calculates how "walkable" your neighborhood is, in its proximity to grocery stores, schools, restaurants, bars, etc.

My apartment near Cheesman Park scored a 90. Of course, since Walkscore.com uses Google listings to calculate its scores, it counted Kitty's Adult Emporium as both the closest bookstore and movie theater. Honestly, if I were going to a movie, I'd probably head to the Esquire, 3/4 of a mile away. And if I were going to buy books, I usually go to the Tattered Cover, which is a completely bikable 1.12 miles from my apartment. I don't really hang out much at Kitty's. There are plenty of places to buy books and watch movies near my place; even dirty books and dirty movies.

What does your neighborhood rate? I think living in a place that scores a 90 makes driving too much of a pain to even consider it most of the time. The parking lot at the King Soopers on Capitol Hill is ridiculous, so if I bike or walk, I avoid all the stress. Here's the link: www.walkscore.com.

Oh, I think Kitty's is a great resource for all your media needs. Eh, my apartment in Englewood scored a *walkable* 42. It listed a few places I never even heard of before.
