Christmas is over and decision time is upon us again. What do we do with those gifts that we hate? We can endure long lines at Cherry Creek Mall or Park Meadows or wherever, to return the stuff or we can store the items somewhere safe until we can "re-gift" them at a later date. However, nobody wants to wait in those lines and re-gifting is risky. You never want to do that in any proximity to the original gift giver. Remember the episode of "Seinfeld" where Elaine discovers that Jerry re-gifted the label maker she gave him? Very embarrassing!

Cincinnati Enquirer reports that there is a better way to dump the loser gifts that you have and maybe even make a buck while doing it. Every year eBay has a rush of business in February. Why? Because that is the time people quit feeling guilty about holiday gifts they don't like and put them up for auction. Whether it is a matching set of Santa Claus socks with a tie or a piece of exercise equipment, eBay is the place to dump it.
There are also plenty of items to choose from if you are looking for something to give to someone next year. Ebay reports that 83% of adults get unwanted gifts for Christmas. Maybe their trash can be your treasure and vice versa.
Although I would be embarrassed if I got caught re-gifting, one survey says that 60% of Americans don't feel that way. One out of four thinks it is a good way to save money and 14% think of it as a form of recycling.
Are you feeling a bit guilty about dumping a gift that a relative gave to you? Maybe some cash from eBay will ease your conscience a bit. If you wish to get in line at the mall instead, life will be a lot easier if you go the week after Christmas as the stores will still have plenty of holiday help. Keep all tags and packaging and, if possible, have a receipt. Be sure to know the return policies before you go. As for me, I'm going on eBay.
