Blog Entry 61 of 182 Bad Mom
I call myself Bad Mom because at the time I came up with it, I was learning about the assumptions we put behind our words. I was following the pattern of not believing that my kids are okay, and speaking to them from that basis. I changed that, and it made a big difference. I am from Utah and my people are still living there. My husband was in the Air Force and we rattled around until we saw Colorado, and we stuck.

Two Views of Time
Contributed by: Lisa Arata   on 4/3/2008

Just been reading Eckhart Tolle's books, A New Earth and The Power of Now. But I've also been having some driving-around time, so Dr. Laura comes on in the afternoons and I check her out too. It's whiplash for the sensibilities: No time to waste, go go go? Or, just do what you're doing right now and don't get hung up?

The Schlessinger version of time goes like this: There isn't any time to waste. Go out and give 100% to your goals, so you don't waste the life God has given you on whining. It's the devil who says there's all the time in the world, so you will idle yourself and get up to bad doings.

The Tolle version of time goes like this: Concentrating on the future is much like concentrating on the past. Neither really exists except as flights of thought, either used to aggrandise or tear yourself down. All that exists is Now, and to put your mind outside now is to avoid being here. It weakens the quality of life.

It's really just a small difference in meaning; working now for the future, vs. being present and doing your best.

I like Tolle's views. I'd like to be like Eckhart Tolle. I'd hate to be like Dr. Laura because she's such a stringy, demanding person.

If I wrote my own self-help book it would be about channeling one's inner energies to decide what to do about problems including obesity; about sustaining a true vision for yourself, and facing your cowardice gently but firmly.
