Blog Entry 115 of 182 Bad Mom
I call myself Bad Mom because at the time I came up with it, I was learning about the assumptions we put behind our words. I was following the pattern of not believing that my kids are okay, and speaking to them from that basis. I changed that, and it made a big difference. I am from Utah and my people are still living there. My husband was in the Air Force and we rattled around until we saw Colorado, and we stuck.

The real ruin of society
Contributed by: Lisa Arata   on 8/12/2008

I hope Focus on the Family really, really was trying to be humorous when they put out their video calling for followers to pray for a deluge "of biblical proportions."

I read about it on the Drudge Report and then read the comments people made, and they all seem like nonsense.

I've had things I've written grossly misinterpreted and been condemned to hell, and it's not a good thing. You write something trusting that people are on your side when you put it out there, but they turn and bite you and say you've done a number on them, and in fact it was you that wrote it, so what can you say?

You just can't trust people to be on your side.

And what's worse, even if you say or do something that makes someone upset, they won't come to you with it anymore and ask you to change it. They won't look at you as a human being. All you are to them is some print or video footage. So if you say something flippant or take the wrong tone, they'll take it however they want to and the consequences are yours.

This is something that gives me despair. We are human, and we are ignorant creatures trying to become wise.

It's so very possible, and do-able, to walk up to someone or phone them, and tell them how you've experienced their words. It takes two adults to listen to one another and to mend fences. When does this happen anymore? I don't know.

If I were the queen of the world, I'd make people talk to one another before suing, or condemning, or anything.

Let's see, asinine, idiot, clueless....I reacted by hunting each of them down and peppering their cars with paintballs (not really).

Right! Can't be blue when looking at sunflowers. What have you been called because of your blog? How did you react?

Lisa, Lisa, Lisa. I have been called all sorts of things because of my blogs. Absolutely don't trust the reading public to ever side with you. If you come up for veote for Queen of the world (next to my mom and my wife), I'll give you mine, though. How's that?I also recommend growing sunflowers. They're cool. mc
