Does Denver have a graffiti Zorro?

"Graffiti Zorro" (no matter how awesome it would look on a business card) might not be the best way to describe the individual responsible for the photo at right, but it's certainly the coolest.

At first glance, the pole at 17th Avenue and Humboldt Street looks like any other tagged pole in the city. I usually don't bother to decipher the words as I walk by, but last week, this one caught my eye.

If you look closely (or click here for a much larger version of the photo), a phrase I never thought I'd see rendered in silver Sharpie comes to light: "Big Money, No Whammies."

That's right. Someone tagged a pole with a catch phrase from the mid-'80s TV game show Press Your Luck (see a clip of the Whammies in action here).

Upon closer inspection, however, it looks likes the catch phrase is the work of two different taggers. The "Big Money" portion of the tag has small quotes around it, like it was meant to stand alone. Plus the odd angle of "No Whammies" doesn't fit with the square of "Big Money" and many of the letters are written in a much different style.

What does this all mean? Well, it means that someone saw the original tag, which is pretty generic and an eyesore, then went to some store, bought a marker, came back and painstakingly tried to match the penmanship, all just to make idiots like me laugh.

To that I say bravo, graffiti Zorro, bravo.
