Denver notes: Babies, blizzards and Travis Henry
Contributed by: Eric J. Lubbers/YourHub.com   on 8/29/2007

Remember those blizzards that blanketed the city for six weeks solid? Looks like Denverites turned to the oldest form of entertainment en masse to wile away the snowy hours because thar's a baby boom a-boomin nine months after the fact. ( link) Are any Denverites out their expecting a bundle of blizzard-conceived joy in the next few weeks? Post a birth announcement about the little guy (or gal) on YourHub.com. ( Click here to get started. It's free and easy.)

In case you aren't already counting the hours until the weekend, let me remind you that it's Labor Day weekend *pause for applause* Labor Day in Denver means that traffic is going to suck anywhere near downtown, but for a damn good reason: it's Taste of Colorado all weekend at Civic Center Park. Food, fun and all the open-air corn-on-the-cob scarfing you can handle will be waiting for you and I want to see your photos and reviews. Whether you're a true foodie or just an eater who knows what he or she likes, I want to read your take on this year's culinary carnival. Post a review of your favorite stands here ( link) by Monday night and you might even make it into next Thursday's print edition.

Other stories of note:
--
Denver Water has a new mascot: A "running toilet" (get it? I hope so, because it's laid on pretty thick) ( link)

-- That woman who has the lead in the ubermusical The Little Mermaid? Yeah, she's a DPS grad. ( link)

-- Travis Henry (the football player, not the YourHub.com editor) makes Shawn Kemp look like a lightweight by having nine kids with nine women by the age of 28. Good thing he wasn't here during the blizzard. ( link)
(see also YourHub.com blotter Joe McDaniel's take on Henry's babymaking prowess here)

-- STOP THE PRESSES! The mayor and several City Council members confess to smoking marijuana in the past! Despite how utterly non-shocking the Denver Daily News article that broke that non-juicy gossip is, it didn't stop every news outlet in town (including this one, now, I guess) from writing a story about it for themselves. ( link - Here's the Rocky for example)
