Denver rocks.

Roundup: Denver is sexier than Boston
Contributed by: Eric J. Lubbers/YourHub.com   on 10/24/2007

As the proud recipient of several Google News Alerts per day, I get a pretty good feel for what the Internet in general has to say about Denver. As a service to you, Denverites, here's a short collection of the best of the bunch, in a feature I'm christening "The Roundup" (for the love of god, if you've got a better name, e-mail it to me):

1. Denver is in the top 10 most attractive cities in the nation
We're not No. 1, but at least we're in the top 10. Well, No. 10, actually, but still, we're a heck of a lot more attractive than Boston, which languished in the No. 16 spot.

In SAT form, Denver is to Scarlett Johannson as Boston is to an 86-year-old Ukranian woman.

So, if the World Series can be decided on attractiveness instead of, you know, the score of the game, the Rockies have those ugly Red Sox beat easy. (link)

2. 10Best Bet Awards

Ol' Howard Pankratz downstairs at the Denver Post wrote a story ( link) about the recent "10Best Bet Awards," which ranked the top ten places in the city in ten categories. He listed two of the lists," mp3 Placelists," (RTD No. 15 bus reprazent! I ride that magnificent beast every day) the best places in town to listen to music, and the " Reasons to Return," a general list of how awesome a place is. Its inclusion of St. Mark's on the latter confirms its accuracy. What he didn't list were the other seven categories, which include:

A Room with a View (top: Brown Palace)
Colorful Characters (top: Binky the Clown! Hell yes!)
Going Green (top: Buffalo Exchange)
Local Tastes (top: Breckenridge Brewery)
Slices of Life (top: Afternoon tea @ Brown Palace)
Superior Service (top: Andre's Confiserie Suisse)
Thrills & Chills (top: Three Sisters Park)
Times to Visit (top: Cherry Creek Arts Fest)

3. Watch the Rockies on the biggest screen in town
Denver Parks and Rec will set up a 40-foot by 20-foot inflatable screen in Skyline Park downtown to show game one of the World Series. (link)

4. Speaking of the Rockies, they could make some lucky gamblers some heavy scratch
Deadspin, my favorite sports blog, has a link to an article about how the lucky, deluded few who may have dropped some dough on the Rox to win the World Series back in April could be rakin' in some serious purplebacks (get it? it's like greenbacks, only... I'm sorry). In fact, a certain former YourHub.com employee did drop $20 on the Rox to win the pennant, so if he ever finds his ticket, he could buy drinks for everyone. (link)

That's it for today, but if you've got Denver links to share, shoot 'em my way in the comments below or send an electronic mail to lubberse (at) YourHub.com.
