A political pundit said most of us live life between the 40 yard lines. I'm one of them. Sometimes I'm right of center, sometimes the other way around.

It's the spending, stupid!
Contributed by: Brian Olson   on 7/14/2008

Both the McCain and Obama campaigns are talking taxes. Obama of course, wants to tax the rich. I know, you don't think you're rich. But the government will.

McCain wants to cut taxes, it's pretty sound economic reasoning that if we have more money to spend instead of the government, the economy will do better.

But the problem isn't taxes. it's spending. And stealing. Think your Social Security deductions are actually going to Social Security? Nope, the money is being blown on pork barrel projects. The government is stealing your money. Yes, STEALING. If it was anyone else, they'd be arrested and thrown in jail.

Bush, Pelosi, Reid, McCain and Obama are all to blame.

This country and its citizens are willing to make sacrifices so we can move forward. We always have.

But until government gets truly serious about cutting spending by at least 25%, eliminating ear marks, enacting term-limits, well, we're headed down a slippery slope.

Monday Memo:
It looks like FINALLY some action is being taken against the Jeffs Polygamist cult in Custer County. Zoning violation appear to be the early tactic, citing these sickos for inappropriate septic systems. It's a start. Maybe we nag them out of the state.

Cause of the week:
We're a generous nation, but when times are tight like they are now it's tough to come up with extra cash to help worthy causes. Well, there is a way you can still help your fellow man in a huge way, literally to save lives.

Give blood. I'm working on my 4-gallon pin with Bonfils Blood Centers. You give every couple of months, it takes a half-hour max and it's very likely the blood you donate will save someone's life.

How cool is that! Give blood. Please.

You said it! This is the part of my USA I'm not proud of at all. I'm not sure about term limits but earmarks? Pork barrel? That's rotten stuff.

Brian - thank you so much for making blood donation part of your routine. One whole blood donation can help up to three patients. Warm regards, Brooke Benham Bonfils Blood Center
