Blog Entry 186 of 270 Average Joe. Not.
I was born, therefore I blog. I have a sense of the ridiculous and need an outlet for that. I can be serious too and love to write little stories about little known but important people and events. And I love wildlife and travel and will always try to share those experiences. I make things up (its called fiction) and am amused when readers are duped into believing they are true.

Travesty Henry
Contributed by: Joe McDaniel   on 8/28/2007

The Denver Bronco's running back du jour certainly knows how to score off the field if reports that he has fathered nine children with nine different women are true. This is shameful.

Not to pile on as I realize that it takes at least two people to procreate, so in this sad story Travis Henry will probably only take 10% of the blame for this breeding spree and each of his intimate partners will take 10% apiece. But he must accept responsibility for 50% of the genetic makeup of each child. The worst part is that there are nine children scattered across the southern USA, each with a single parent, while Henry has fun playing football.

Dave Krieger, writing for the Rocky Mountain News, reveals that Travesty Henry has shown some reluctance to pay child support. Here is a guy who, on his NFL salary, could afford to build numerous orphanages or child care centers and still afford the odd Mercedes and a few gold earrings and other bling.

Vincent Carroll's editorial in the RMN (Tuesday 28 August) points out that dogfighting is illegal but that fathering children our of wedlock is "very much legal and very much socially accepted." Well, it shouldn't be socially acceptable. It is one of the most devastating social behaviors in our society with terrible consequences for the children and the families that are abandoned by people like Henry.

There is a serious issue of character here that should be discussed. Why would the Denver Broncos organization actively recruit someone whose personal behavior is so flawed and reprehensible? I can only think that they may be helping society by keeping him off the street while he practices during the week and plays his chosen sport on Sundays. Football uniforms don't have easy-open zippers in the front which may be a deterrant for at least four hours on Sunday. Of course, by paying Henry a multi-million dollar salary and bonuses the Broncos are helping ensure he can afford child support, even if he doesn't pay it. Whether he actually pays child support is probably considered a "personal matter."

Sam Adams (RMN "Speak Up" column) suggests that Henry needs better judgement, better financial planning and a hefty bag full of condoms. My suggestion would be an outpatient procedure commonly known as a vasectomy. And it is relatively inexpensive.

Hmm...I just realized that's probably not an insult. Sigh, I need to go to bed.

Great blog. I have to agree with everything you wrote. It is a sad state of affairs. Unfortunately, he will be judged by us fans for his on field performance, not his in bed performance. For all us fans who think we can relate with a player on the field.....REALITY CHECK!

I hope he doesn't name all his boys "Travis Henry" like George Forman named his five sons George (although I think he supports them and married his ten kids' mothers) This will cause even more problems for our yourHub editor.

Joe, love your title. By coincidence, I blogged about Travesty Henry, too. Maybe fans should refuse to accept such a socially irresponsible Bronco as they refused to accept Rafael Septien back in the eighties.

I agree with you Joe. He is a disgrace to the Broncos.
