The Right Experience for House District 6
This blog is to communicate to the constituents of House District 6 in Denver, the ways in which Lois Court has the right experience to serve them as State Representative. It will speak about Lois's platform and plans she has for advancing the interests of district 6, the City of Denver, and the State of Colorado. Lois is a Democratic candidate running for the seat that will be vacated by Speaker of the House, Andrew Romanoff, who is term limited. She is the only candidate in the Democratic primary that has accepted the campaign spending limit of $68,900, and is not accepting any Special Interest PAC money. As a State Representative, she will be an advocate for Single Payer Universal Health Care, Public Education, Labor, the Environment, and State Constitutional Reform. For more information about Lois's experience, qualifications, and positions, please visit www.loiscourt.com.

Campaign promise
Contributed by: Lois Court   on 6/6/2008

In my efforts to connect with those who will hopefully be my constituency come November, I've enjoyed meeting with so many neighbors as I've been walking our district. It seems this political season has engaged people at an unprecedented level, and the excitement is palpable.

But, I have noticed something that troubles me.
As Thomas Jefferson said, "No one more sincerely wishes the spread of information among mankind than I do, and none has greater confidence in its effect towards supporting free and good government." I couldn't have said it better myself.

As we've discussed issues, many of the people I've spoken to have told me they've forgotten most of what they learned in high school civics (imagine that!). In fact, many have said they'd like a chance to refresh their knowledge.

So I am making my one and only campaign promise:
If you do me the honor of electing me as the next State Representative from House District 6, I promise to teach a class next summer just for you, my constituents.

We'll call it "Colorado Civics for Citizens" and it won't be offered through any school and it won't cost anything.
We'll discuss things like:
• The logistics of enacting laws in the legislature.
• How Colorado's referendum and initiative processes work.
• And of course, we'll talk about the issues we're facing in Colorado and how we can all work together to solve them.

If you'd like to make sure that I become the next State Representative from House District 6 please:
Make a contribution
Ask for a Yard Sign (under Volunteer Opportunities)
Offer to help with walking, calling, or mailings (under Volunteer Opportunities)

Or just get in touch to let me know if you like this idea
