I don't know about you, but I'm just tickled with President Bush's plan to send us all rebate checks, or, as I've come to think of them, "Bush Bucks". While I'm not sure that this $150 billion dollar relief plan (give or take a billion) is the best use of our tax dollars, I suppose if our money is going to go to pork-barrel projects, we might as well be the little piggies who get it.
Better now than later, since once McCain is President (see how confident I appear?) our little dividends would likely be the first fat to be trimmed. And really, it would probably be for the best, since economists don't particularly think much of the plan to begin with.
After all, word is that while the plan is to stimulate the economy, your average check recipient is more likely to use it to pay off debt than to buy a new 60 inch plasma TV. Well, actually, word is that people are already doing just that-buying the TV, that is-just in time for the Superbowl, with the comfortable knowledge that the good old boys in Washington will send the money to pay off their Best Buy card long before the 12-months-free interest comes due.
Yes, Americans have so much faith in government that they are already spending the "Bush Bucks" before the plan is actually passed. And speaking of that plan, it still seems a little unclear exactly who will be getting what. As originally conceived, it was $800 per person and $1600 per couple. Then the House settled on $600 per person/$1200 per couple. Now I'm reading that the Senate is thinking $500/person and $1000/couple.
While it's true I'm really more of a lower taxes/free market kind of gal, I was already dreaming of paying off some bills. Naturally, I liked the inflated numbers better than the receding ones. Until the final numbers come in, however, sports fans might be safer with the 40 inch tube.
