Blog Entry 7 of 8 Kevin Johnson's Blues
"He can run faster than most ferrets I know!" -G.W. Bush, 1994, on Kevin Johnson.

Last thoughts heading in to Super Tuesday
Contributed by: Kevin Johnson   on 2/5/2008

It is 1:15 am, Central Time and I am watching Grey Davis on MSNBC predict that Hillary could win by double digits in California, but I sincerely doubt that. Independents will vote Obama in California, which could hurt McCain's chances in California, but who really gives a damn....

It seems that Hillary cried again... another cheap ploy for votes (New Hampshire)? Or is she human after all... I will pry rot in hell for this, but I am starting to think that maybe she might not be that bad of an option, were she to get the Dem nod... especially in light of McCain looking like the favorite right now to win the Rep. nod after this week... the lesser of two evils... sort of like choosing between ingesting a razor or a thumb tack...

John McCain stumps in Mass.. A replay on C-Span... it is comforting to think that he will be dead with in a decade... how harsh... what is wrong with me? Why am I up right now anyway?

Lots of pork barrel talk... think I will go get a late night stack...

CNN they are talking about Giuliani giving the nod to McCain... I am still in shock and awe about the way Giuliani chose to run his campaign... seriously, he banks all his money on winning Florida and then loses... badly... he just never could get things going... and I thought he always looked strange and confused throughout the whole process... oddly out of place without his pitchfork and horns...

How do you know what is the right choice. Say I (an independent) vote Republican and we stay in Iraq and it is a disaster, even more so than it already is, and the economy flops and Big Brother installs a camera in my living room... or say I vote Democrat and we pull out of Iraq and they do follow us home and I have to walk around with the fear that I could be backpack bombed at any given moment? Who is to say? I guess you just have to go with your gut... or heart... or maybe I should just use my brain...

Barack Obama speaking in Boston... there is just something about this guy that I have liked from the beginning. He really does have that Kennedy magic that I read about in my Social Studies textbooks... it is almost tragic in a way. One of my buddies told me about a year ago, when it was first suspected that Obama would run for president, that if and when Obama ran he would almost surely be assassinated... "You know there is some white nationalist nut out there who couldn't stand that much variation from the norm"...

I pray to God every night that my buddy is wrong...

There is just something about this guy... "We cannot wait!" Obama says, and by God he is right... "We need politics, not about tearing each other up, we need politics about lifting each other up"... "Politics about honesty and truthfulness"...

After 8 years of... well, what is the opposite of hope? Desolation? Pessimism?... after 8 years of the opposite of hope, we need hope... we need his hope... after 8 years of fear and national division we need him to bring us together... we need his change... this is what my gut, my heart, and my brain are telling me...

"There is something stirring out there! If you believe, then we can bring about change in America right here, right now!"

It is 1:59 am, Central Time...I am 24 years old...for the first time in my life I really feel like my vote matters...
