Blog Entry 60 of 125 Bad Mom
I call myself Bad Mom because at the time I came up with it, I was learning about the assumptions we put behind our words. I was following the pattern of not believing that my kids are okay, and speaking to them from that basis. I changed that, and it made a big difference. I am from Utah and my people are still living there. My husband was in the Air Force and we rattled around until we saw Colorado, and we stuck.

Stop Whining, Start Living? Whine This!
Contributed by: Lisa Arata   on 4/1/2008

I don't mind Dr. Laura because the advice she gives, for many people, will help them. Plus, they're calling her. They must like her style.

However I'm not going to buy her book, Stop Whining, Start Living, because the title is so grating. I want to answer her back: You Stop B*tchin', Okay?

Also, I'd argue back that her book, Care and Feeding of Husbands, which teaches women to strengthen their marriages by treating their men well, only goes so far and then leaves very frustrated women nothing, I mean nothing, to go on. It might as well be subtitled, "Fakeness and flattery will get you everywhere." Besides, a really narcissistic, borderline wife (unlike moi) won't recognize how crappy she treats her husband anyway.

While I realize I'm arguing for limitations, thus I get to keep them, I'd like to write a book about being true, about your own meanings being just as good as anyone else's, and how you're not really being loving to people if you're just acting out a role. Done that. It isn't good.

I propose everyone write their own self-help book and apply it to themselves.

Having never had a taste for self-help books, I like this idea. Maybe not the title, but one of my chapters would be: It Will Just Get Dirty Again, Anyway.

My self-help book is titled "Have a Beer, Mick, it's good for YOU". Open it up and that's the first and last line.............
