Blog Entry 70 of 125 Bad Mom
I call myself Bad Mom because at the time I came up with it, I was learning about the assumptions we put behind our words. I was following the pattern of not believing that my kids are okay, and speaking to them from that basis. I changed that, and it made a big difference. I am from Utah and my people are still living there. My husband was in the Air Force and we rattled around until we saw Colorado, and we stuck.

Primal fear and obsession over my mistake
Contributed by: Lisa Arata   on 5/21/2008

The blog entry I wrote about my former friend got 366 views, and the only other blog entry that came close to it was "I can or I can't" which got 295.

Why did that blog drew so many more views? Who was looking for that name? What other website has the same name?

I looked on a website that showed how many people had searched for that name in white pages, and there were three. That's really frightening. Who were they?

I did not know blogs linked to search engines. Should I have known that?

There's no way of knowing what happened from the other side of the story and I think I'm shunned by several people I care or have cared about.

Could some criminally minded creep have been steered in that direction?

Am I going to be served some papers at some point? I know someone who knows someone who is an attorney. Is it realistic to think they could have been that incensed and offended that they'll go after me?

Or was it more like these kinds of things have led to trouble for some people, and that's why it was so horrible.

Or could it be that the blog entry seemed disrespectful and dismissive?

I think the reason that post got so many readers was that my name got mentioned in the print version of YourHub about that same time and people checked it out. Just a bad coincidence.

Now that's a big duh for me. It wasn't then. I felt proud of her and clueless too. Now I feel like saying something mean, like this: People can be nice as hell, but if their dog is different, pay attention.

One added note; I very rarely use people's full names in my blogs.

Well, yeah. I know. But if there's any chance she's reading any of this I want her to know that I don't downplay how serious this was to her.

Lisa, don't be so hard on yourself, and like Mick said, it's probably not worth the worry. Sharing stories about friends, family and everyday life is what blogging is about. Everyone that I've written about, loves the flattery. You have genuine and positive intentions from what I've read; and your friends reaction, while rare I think, simply says that not everyone wants snippets of their life to be an open book.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, Lisa. Just keep writing!
