Blog Entry 5 of 75 YourHub is a great forum
My wife says I have an opinion on everything. I guess that is correct as I possess what I call "McKnowledge": Knowing pretty much about a lot of things but not a lot about anything in particular. It is a type of surface knowledge learned as a salesman that allows me to converse with anybody from Snoop Dogg to George Will. It's fun but occasionally I have to get down and dirty and use that pesky "research" when I am writng a column since it is every columnist's nightmare to make an error. Short bio: I spent 4 years in the U. S. Air Force, graduated from the University of Central Missouri, had a career in sales that allowed me to move to Scottsdale, AZ in 1989. In 2004 I wrote a 7 part series on the history of television through the 1970's for TV TOME (now TV.com). I have done some TV ,radio, and public address work and write columns and blogs for the SCOTTSDALE REPUBLIC section of THE ARIZONA REPUBLIC and the NORTH SCOTTSDALE INDEPENDENT. I enjoy doing blogs and stories for YourHub in the ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS.

Plummer going back to Arizona?
Contributed by: Jim McAllister   on 11/25/2006

Does Jake Plummer really want to return to the woeful Arizona Cardinals? Sportswriter Dan Bickley of The Arizona Republic reports in the November 25 edition of that fish wrap that a friend of Plummer in Arizona says that "the former Valley golden boy would likely be open to holding the clipboard in Arizona, spending the rest of his career backing up (Matt) Leinart." Can this possibly be true?

Let's take a look at the record: Jake is in his 4th year with the Broncos and although the team was 7-2 a couple of weeks ago, they have now slipped to 7-4 after two losses in 5 days. Even when winning, Jake wasn't getting much credit as the offense was usually anemic while the defense was doing most of the work. Jake has a young and anxious quarterback on the sidelines in Jay Cutler plus a lot of unhappy fans calling for his removal after the recent losses. Late yesterday Shanahan named Cutler as his starter for the upcoming Seattle game so could this be it for Jake?

It's understandable that Denverites expect a lot from their quarterbacks. I have watched a lot of guys take the snap from center, but if I had to list the number one all-time best, John Elway would have to be the man. Unfortunately, this is the perfection that Denver wants forever and it's easy to be spoiled with a guy like Elway. Why not? Those two Super Bowls were a lot of fun and although Plummer only had to replace the mediocre Brian Griese, the fans wanted him to be Elway-ish. Sorry, it just can't be that way, folks.

Jake Plummer will be 32 on December 19. He has had his share of injuries and at 6' 2" and 212 doesn't fit the mold of the modern NFL quarterback who is usually about 20 pounds heavier and 3 inches taller. In fact, I would question the 212 as he was about 185 while playing at Arizona State. His team's problems aren't entirely his fault as injuries have taken their toll on offense and defense. However, a quarterback has to please the fans and they are currently restless.

Plummer has a 40-18 record as a starter in Denver but it is a "What have you done for me lately" business. Maybe at 32 he is tired of getting beat up, both physically and mentally, and would like to return to the place of his greatest glory even if it is to the sorriest franchise in the NFL. He is a 10 year man with a ton of money, so, why not?

You claim "the fans wanted him to be Elway-ish." I'm sorry, but you could not be more wrong. As a life-long Bronco fan, I can tell you that the majority of us got over Elway many years ago. Of course he's missed, but we are bright enough to know that something that good cannot be replaced. Our problem is with Jake's inconsistency. The only thing Jake is consistent at is inconsistency. 12 turnovers this season and only 11 touchdowns prove that. And that's why we have a problem with him. Jake cannot take credit for his 40-18 record - especially not this season. Any win the team has had has this season been thanks to the rest of the team for covering Jakes mistakes. That's why he's being replaced. Inconsistency plain and simple.
