Blog Entry 1 of 7 Denver Nuggets - The Truth
Jim, Jimmy, JT, Toft - A man of many names and many hobbies including skydiving, snowboarding, writing and analyzing. Yeah that’s right, analyzing. People often refer to me for my opinions on anything from sports, love, money, sex, and/or just about any everyday situation. I go with my gut and my first instinct is almost always right. "(Jimmy) Has an uncanny ability to analyze and provide accurate insight by relating all internal and external variables for any given situation" - Jeff Hughes, the second best analyst I know. LoL. Perhaps one of my BIGGEST hobbies for which I have some of my strongest opinions is the NBA and of course, my DENVER NUGGETS. A native, growing up w/out cable, the Broncos and the Nuggets were about as good as it got for me and T.V. In the third grade I began playing basketball and quickly fell in love with the game and the Nuggets. I'm only 23 so my history only goes back to the later era of Alex English, however most of my memories begin with the Mutombo, Chris Jackson, (True Nugg's fans will recognize that name) and LaPhonso Ellis era, especially when we upset GP & the Sonics in the first round. Regardless, don't underestimate my current knowledge, love and desire for the Nuggets and the NBA. I want an NBA Championship in Denver more than anything! WooWhoo... I'm over the Avs - hockey SUCKS anyway. Lets go NUGGETS!!! -Broncos too! Enjoy, argue, agree and comment, but respect my views. And remember... its not mean, if that’s how it is! Visit Often!

Earl Boykins? I think not
Contributed by: Jim Toft   on 10/9/2006

This, my first entry is in response to an article written in the Rocky Mountain News by Chris Tomasson. A fine article, but he is on Earl Boykins' high horse like the rest of the Nuggets fans that don't care about an NBA Championship. There a link at the bottom of you'd like to read it, however, it's not mean, if that's how it is...And this is how it is:

As a huge Nuggets fan, a fan that wants to win an NBA Championship more than Boykins to the point where I wish he was gone!

My reasoning is because everyone in Denver is on the Boykins band wagon including Chris Tomasson. Boykins' injury is not the reason we did so poorly at the end of last season. Boykins playing as much as he does in the first place is the reason we are mediocre and will continue to be nothing better so long as he averages minutes like he did last season (25+/game). Until we get a solid 2-guard and Boykins is either gone or playing 10-18 minutes/game we will not be a championship caliber team.

Don't get confused, I honestly like Boykins, but it is everyone in Denver who is so content/obsessed with him that makes his name unbearable to me. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying its his fault we are hardly better than middle of the pack. For now, he's as good as we've got and yeah, we did miss his strengths when he was out at the end of last season. My point is that we need to get aggressive in the front office and get a solid 2. We are a solid 2-guard away from a Western Conference Finals, am I the only one in Denver that sees that? Artest, Finley, Mobley and even Kobe (granted the bad timing) ... we've missed out on all those guys, difference makers.

To clarify, if we had one of those guys, Boykins would be playing 10-18 minutes/game and we'd be in the Western Conference Finals. Period, the end. Get off the Boykin Bandwagon already, I know you think he's short and cute, but lets face it ... Boykins will take us no where, regardless of how motivated he is by his horrible play in the playoffs last year. (I'll take this opportunity to call out Karl and say he shouldn't have even brought back Boykins early after his injury and messed up what chemistry we had going into the playoffs without him)

Lastly, I'm not saying get rid of Boykins either, I'd honestly like to see him average 15 minutes/game (not 25+) . We have plenty of big men to deal, including Nene or KMart. Don't tell me we can't get a solid 2-guard!

Go Nuggets! And mad props Boykins (the second shortest NBA Player ever)....just don't think you're the hero.

The missing piece we're all looking for? A solid two-guard, and maybe a big man that can spread the court ... but that's for another day.

And That's How It Is

I can't believe you idolized Jordan. Everybody knows Steve Kerr "Kerr"ied the Bulls. Jordan couldn't hold Doug Moe's jockstarp. Are you p.o.'d yet? Just tweaking your nipples. Great blog, nephew! PS I linked the RIP boarding blog to your blog. Who's your favorite uncle? Don't answer that.

Brendan and Travis: I am with you two, I wouldn't mind seeing Kmart in another uniform. Unfortunately, Kiki was more than generous when he brought Kmart over and we're better off hopping that he'll get healthy than counting on a decent trade. Nene is tricky too, coming off his injury and signing a new contract at the same time... it will be interesting to see how that plays out this season. Regardless of which big man we talk about, the real issue is that they are all the same player, be looking for a blog/article on that in the near future. John and Kevin: Your both right too, Boykins does mix up the tempo and is a solid back up POINT guard, for 15 minutes/game. If we had a quality 2, that’s all he'd be playing. (another 2-guard I left out earlier is Michael Redd) I’m looking forward to seeing how JR Smith plays out also. Be looking for a blog there too. Thanks for the comments guys. I'll post again next week.

Boykins is a great backup point guard, especially since his style of play is so different than Andre Miller. But no, he's not a shooter. I'm sure the Nuggets can find a shooter for cheap. Sure, he may not be able to defend a high schooler, but that's not why he'll be in the game, anyway. Either that, or trade a BIG MAN for a shooter. Everyone's looking for size. BTW, I'm still pissed off at the Nuggets for their loss at HOME against the Rockets when they played to not get hurt instead of win and wound up blowing a 24-point win. I'm just glad I didn't pay for that ticket.

Boykins is an energy guy. As we get older and older and older, we're going to need that. He isn't the greatest shooter, but he can get it done when we are running (Like Karl said we be putting an increased emphasis on this year).

You still think we can get anybody of value for Nene or KMart?
