First off, who is Bernie Lincicome? I felt like I was reading some hideous attempt at poetry. "Olives on a salad???" Bernie obviously thinks he's a better writer than he is not to include any stats in his argument, or maybe Bernie's just in love with his own opinions. I understand he and many fans out there have concerns with trading for Iverson and his style of play. But WHO ARE YOU Bernie Lincicome to start writing in Denver by taking shots at Carmelo Anthony, the best thing to happen to the Nuggets since Alex English? For those of you who don't know, I'm referring to the worst sports article I've ever seen written - there's a link at the bottom. Welcome to Denver Nuggets - The Truth, Bernie Lincicome. Your article was hideous, false, lacking of any facts, and merely the same opinion I would expect most closed minded elderly to have. If I was the Denver Post or Rocky Mountain News - I'd fire you for that ugliness in a heartbeat. It's not mean if that's how it is, and that's just how it is. I wish I had your brilliance so that I could use one of your
COOL analogies to describe you.... You know, like the ones you used to describe Melo and Iverson:
"Not every garden slug ruins the tomatoes. Not every odor soils the carpet. Not every tattooed, head-banded, self-absorbed, me-first brat refuses to work well with others," Bernie writes referring to AI and Melo.
PUKE!
"Maybe there was a bonding of outcasts there (Athens Olympics)," he again takes aim at Carmelo and AI after noting that Anthony said he
WANTS to play with AI.
"(AI) Would not be a bargain for the Nuggets, except that maybe Iverson and Carmelo Anthony would need only the single hairdresser," Bernie Lincicome continues.Again, I ask is who does he think he is to criticize the best basketball player in Denver since Alex English and soon to be the best basketball player in Denver Nuggets History?
That's brilliance there ladies and gentleman. Can we get a round of applause... "Not every odor soils the carpet," ... Masterpiece Bernie, masterpiece. On with why he is wrong:
Bernie Says:
"The Nuggets would not win the NBA title with Allen Iverson....The 76ers could not win with Iverson....Georgetown could not win with Iverson."
Can you guess what Bernie will write if the Nuggets do NOT pick up Iverson come the first round of the playoffs. Easy prediction. He'll be the first to criticize them for making 4 straight 1 st round exits, won't you Bernie? As with the 76ers not winning with Iverson, they did make it to the finals - which is more than you can say for Kevin Garnet, Ray Allen, Steve Nash and many other premier players in the NBA. Not even Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, and many other NBA greats ever won the big one. The fact is, AI makes us better. He assures us a 1st round victory and makes us an immediate contender for an NBA Championship - FACT. And Georgetown? In '94-'95 Iverson led his 6th ranked Hoyas to the Sweet 16 before loosing to #2 North Carolina and in the '95-'96 season Iverson took his 2nd ranked Georgetown team to the Elite 8 where they fell short to #1 Massachusetts. Most would say his two year college stint was fairly successful, better again than many other NBA players and greats. Its not like his team was upset either, loosing to higher ranked teams who were obviously just better. Lastly, AI has never had that Scottie Pippen "wingman" and don't get me started on Chris Webber, the most over-rated, over paid, laziest, worst defender in the league. (I remember my high school basketball coach making us run for "Webber's" - which was putting/resting our hands on our knees.) Don't be so surprised Carmelo wants AI. Could you image the consequences of a double/triple team on Melo with JR Smith and AI spreading the court?
Bernie Says:
"There is no denying he is a nice little player, Iverson. Nice selfish little player. Plays hard. Can score. Causes trouble. Is defensive, not on the court, just in the world. Couldn't cover a sneeze with a tablecloth."
I don't know if Bernie is working on his poetry or just doesn't know what a complete sentence is. One thing is for sure, the stats again don't support his arguments. I doubt he even looked, but you know I'll bring them to the table for ya: AI is #2 in the NBA in steals behind only the former Defensive Player of the Year, Ron Artest. He is also #10 in assists. Did I mention he and Melo are #1 and #2 in points per game? You don't think me might TRUST Carmelo to carry his share of the load, especially if it meant making the game easier for both of them and contending for a title? You don't think George Karl could be the Phil Jackson catalyst who puts it all together? That's why we brought Karl to Denver, now let's give him the available tools and a chance at the title, right?...Speaking of giving Karl the tools...
Our 5 Starters - Best in the NBA?
* Andre Miller - Key to it all working; 2nd in the NBA in Assists, will keep the ball distributed, and everyone happy
* Allen Iverson - Scorer, fast pace, creates turnovers, fits well with Karl and the Nuggets' philosophies
* Carmelo Anthony - Says he WANTS to play with AI
* Eddie Najera/Reggie Evans - Roll player, defense, energy, rebounding
* Marcus Camby - Speaks for himself, as long as he's healthy down the stretch
Now look at the Bench!
* JR Smith - Wow, what a spark to have come off the bench
* Eddie/Reggie - Roll player, defense, energy, rebounding
* Roll Players - A few solid minutes/game, in the playoffs expect Karl to only go 7 or 8 deep anyway
**** Is that not a relentless line-up???***
Who's Missing? - The Trade:
* Earl Boykins - Another key to making this work. You cannot have another ball demanding guard come off the bench for AI. Earl works now because he is a change of pace but AI will already bring that to the table. Boykins' strength is not distributing the ball and there is no denying that will be needed if Iverson joins the Nuggets.
* Joe Smith - The 76ers are looking for cap room and this vet's expiring contract is ideal.
* Nene - If it goes down, expect a third team to be involved, which is where Nene will land.
*
1st Round Draft Pick - Exactly what the 76ers want, hopefully we don't have to give up both of ours for next years high octane draft, we'll be needing a center soon.
Come on Denver, lets make sure our management knows we are serious about bringing an NBA Title to the MileHighCity joining the Avs and Broncos as Champions in the realm professional sports! CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
In with Allen Iverson - Out with Bernie Lincicome!
