Being Travis Henry
Contributed by: Travis Henry (who else?)   on 3/3/2007

The secret is out.

The Denver Broncos have been negotiating with me for weeks to hang up my editor hat, pop on a helmet and help lead the team to the next Super Bowl.

You can read all about it in these articles:

The Denver Post
Rocky Mountain News

Nah, not really. But the idea of the Broncos acquiring NFL pro Travis Henry is an interesting one to me.

The minute he would come to town I would instantly become the other Travis Henry, even though I am a bit older than him and have lived in this state my entire life.

I already barely exist on Google because of him, which could be a good or bad thing . Try Googling Travis Henry and see what you get. In this day of fantasy football I will never compete.

To find me on Google you have to add the words " YourHub.com" or " JonBenet Ramsey" to my name.

Speaking of fantasy football, I thought it would be fun to have running back Travis Henry on my team three times since he began his NFL career. Check out his stats page and try to figure out which years I had him. (Hint: It was the three years that wouldn't put a smile on either Travis Henry's face.) I think I now know how Aaron Brooks' counterpart must feel.

Being the first Travis Henry does have some perks though.

Years back someone told me I really ought to sign up for this new "Hotmail" thing. I listened to her and my first Web email address was, and is, TravisHenry@Hotmail.com . No numbers, extra letters or anything. Try getting a Web address using just your name now, no matter how creative your parents were.

Soon after I set up my email address I started getting fan mail from teens who claimed they had just seen me in concert at local shopping malls. Anyone who has ever had the misfortune of hearing me belt out some karaoke in my younger days knows no one would pay me to sing in public.

Turns out a young country singer with the Travis Henry name had a Web site at www.TravisHenry.com and was directing fan mail to my email address. Using the Wayback Machine you can see his Web site here. In 2003 his Web site mysteriously disappeared and in 2004 football player Travis Henry took it over .

I'm not sure whatever happened to the country singer Travis Henry, but the football player and I may soon share the same area code.

As long as there are a lot of touchdowns involved I think it will be all right.

You shouldn't Google yourself too much, you'll go blind.

I love the googleganger term! I have one googleganger. It's a guy. My name is so versatile. The only other person who ever shows up when I do searches of myself is Angelina Jolie, but only because she thinks I am SO cool.

He's busy fixing headlines IN ALL CAPS and hoping certain chiropractors will use their own original material when posting on YourHub.com.

We need a Travis Henry round-up! I could think of better reasons to throw a big party, but do we really need one?

There's a thought. A Yourhub karaoke extravaganza. Also, caption for photo 3: Defendant declined to comment.

Update: They signed him. I wonder if it will be easier to get restaurant reservations now if I call in and say "Table for two for Travis Henry."

My only google doppelganger (Googleganger™) is a guy from Michigan who owns a fly fishing equipment business. Not nearly as cool as an NFL runningback.
