Blog Entry 117 of 222 Computing and you!
What's going on in computing, why it's important to master the productivity software on your computer and how to harness the power your computer provides you at work and in your home.

Madmen a reminder of non-tech days.
Contributed by: John Scherer   on 10/31/2008

On my short list of favorite television shows, Madmen on AMC tops the list. If you haven't seen the series, which just wrapped up season two, it's about an advertising agency and staff (and their personal dramas) set in the early 1960's.

Lots of things surprise you, especially those who weren't around at that time and the huge change in the office environment 45 years later.

Back then, men were the executives and women were the secretaries. Contrast that to today where here at Video Professor, our President and COO is Bettye Harrison who is both a remarkable woman and even more remarkable executive.

Then there's the constant smoking commonplace back then, as well as the way people drank alcohol at work like we drink bottled water today.

But the HUGE difference to me is the typewriters instead of computers, rotary dial phones and if you were outside the building and needed to make a call you had to find a phone booth.

Business of course was conducted, much of the "rules of the road" of advertising and marketing hold true today but the stark contrast in office technology then, and today is stunning.
