An eleven year old fox terrier named Alex will be the beneficiary of the 2nd annual garage sale of The Misha May Foundation.
"Alex is the victim of someone else's midlife crisis," suggested Lorraine May, founder and executive director of Misha May, which specializes in mutts and dogs who have run out of time at local shelters who have specific medical and behavior needs. Alex's owner called Misha May and said he had acquired a younger dog and no longer wanted Alex. Because of his age and neglected health care, Alex's medical needs include blood work, dental care, arthritis pain medication and surgical removal of growths.
According to May, Alex is a calm and gentle dog who gets younger all the time.
"He is all about the people," said May. "We'd like him to have an opportunity to preserve his dignity and honor as he gets older. We have faith that all will be okay with the loving home we find for him."
The garage sale also will aid the rescue's depleted Baby Bear Medical Fund, which has helped dogs who have needed life-saving heart surgery, leg amputation, tooth extraction and more. The fund provided heartworm treatment and multiple de-wormings to dozens of dogs rescued in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and paid for veterinary isolation of dogs with canine flu, which can cost up to $500 per dog.
To donate to the medical fund, go to www.mishamayfoundation.org. and click on "Make A Donation" or send a check to The Misha May Foundation, PO Box 151166, Lakewood, CO, 80215-1166. Misha May also needs people to foster, adopt, and help with fundraising. To learn more, see the website, email info@mishamayfoundation.org, or call 303.239.0382. Tax-deductible donations will help save a dog's life.
Misha May's future plans include a home-like Sanctuary, Training and Adoption Lodge so they can accept and help more animals. Current rescued animals are placed in foster homes until adopted.
