Since its creation, The Tesoro Foundation has grown considerably through its diverse, family-friendly programming and partnerships with sponsors and educational institutions. Tesoro's annual flagship event, The Indian Market & Powwow, has also expanded this year to include hands-on educational activities provided by The Denver Museum of Nature & Science and a Native American culture film collection. In addition, a juried art show with over forty-five of the country's most revered Native American artists and a competition powwow will continue through the weekend. Powwow performers demonstrate Traditional, Shawl, Fancy, Grass, and Jingle dances while educating visitors about their meaning and historical significance. The Powwow falls on Armed Forces Day, providing a timely opportunity to honor Native Americans who have served in all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. This year's Powwow honoree is Korean War Veteran and Denver March Powwow co-founder John Emhoolah. Local non-profit organization Hawk Quest will be on hand at the market with live birds of prey, as well. Food, storytelling, music, educational activities, and dancing will take place all weekend long. Bring the family along to enjoy this incredible, colorful celebration of culture, history, and new traditions!
