JUC Live! presents
John McCutcheon in Concert
With ahealthy measure of youthful curiosity, John McCutcheon hitch-hiked theAppalachians armed with a backpack and a banjo and in the process he discovereda new home, both musically and geographically. Learning at the knees of some ofthe great traditional masters, McCutcheon mastered the banjo, guitar, fiddle, autoharp, mountain dulcimer, and jaw harp.
JohnMcCutcheon has become what one Australian paper called "the most overwhelmingfolk performer in the English language." His songwriting, rich in detail andbroad in scope, has created a catalog of hundreds of songs covered byperformers throughout the world. His classic Christmas in the Trenches has beenrepeatedly cited as "the greatest anti-war song ever written" and is thesubject of an annual, coast-to-coast special on CBC.
Criticsreserve their most lavish praise for McCutcheon's mastery of the hammerdulcimer, an instrument on which he is widely recognized as a world master. Hehas pushed the bounds of the instrument, exposing it to country, rock, and jazzaudiences. His recent successes showcasing the dulcimer in symphonic settingshave brought this ancient instrument ... the inspiration for the invention of thepiano ... full circle back to classical audiences.
Johnhas produced over twenty-five albums in as many years. He has garnered anamazing five consecutive Grammy nominations, been awarded every imaginableaward in the independent record industry and toured the world filling concerthalls on four continents.
