Jazz Pianist Joe Bonner

One of the celebratedsons of the worldwide jazz community and the namesake of The Bonner Party,Joseph Bonner can be heard every Sunday evening at 8 p.m. at the Mercury Café.Bonner has enjoyed musical tenures with several of the greatest jazz artists ofall time, including Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Max Roach, Roy Haynes, BillyHarper and Pharaoh Sanders. He has released over a dozen albums as a leader aswell as appearing on dozens more as a featured soloist and composer. Joseph wasformally educated at Virginia State College, but his more significant learningtranspired hanging out with Miles Davis and meeting John Coltrane. Influencedby Art Tatum, McCoy Tyner and Thelonius Monk, maestro Bonner's improvisationsemploy his deep roots in modern jazz, gospel, blues, R&B and Latin forms.
