Theater Company of Lafayette Seeks Play Submissions for Two New Play Projects
Project One: 10,000 Wayniacs: Very Short Plays Inspired by Mr. Las Vegas. We are seeking short comedic sketches that address and/or lampoon life in Sin City. The plays will be woven together into a production to be presented in July, 2008. Scripts should be 30 seconds to four minutes in length, and should mention Wayne Newton. Small stipends are available. It's a chance to play! Scripts should be submitted electronically in standard playwriting format by April 1, 2008.
Project Two: Separated at Birth: The Lincoln/Darwin Plays. We are seeking short plays that are inspired by Abraham Lincoln and/or Charles Darwin, and provide contemporary perspectives on the impact of these two men. Up to six short plays will receive full productions, and up to six will receive staged readings. The plays will be presented in Feb., 2009 as part of a celebration of both men's 200th birthday, Feb. 12, 2009. Submissions are due Aug. 1, 2008.
For additional information on these project, contact TCL's Artistic Director, Madge Montgomery (madge@tclstage.org).
There will be a selection committee who will work with the artistic director to choose the plays that will receive full productions and readings.
1. The play must be no longer than 15 minutes.
2. The cast should be no larger than 8. Characters may be of any age.
3. Setting must be minimal. The major design statement will be made through costuming, sound, and props. Some lighting effects are possible.
4. The script must have been inspired by the lives and/or legacies of either Abraham Lincoln or Charles Darwin.
5. The language and content of the script should be appropriate for ages 13 and up.
6. The plays will be performed at the Mary Miller Theater, a 75 seat, semi-thrust stage in Lafayette, Colorado.
7. Playwrights whose work is selected will receive a small stipend.
