The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA), the non-profit provider of home care, hospice and wellness services throughout Colorado, is looking for individuals interested in becoming a volunteer with VNA's Hospice at Home program.
Hospice at Home volunteers join a team of doctors, nurses, home health aids, chaplains, social workers and other volunteers to ensure that every patient and their family receives much needed care and support.
"Many people do not understand that hospice is not about dying, but helping patients live fully until the end of their life and providing support to the entire family during a critical time," said Nora Simmons Daly, volunteer resources manager, at the Visiting Nurse Association. "Hospice volunteers play an important role in providing companionship and support."
Hospice volunteers help in a variety of ways, such as providing support to patients, respite for family members, child care assistance, bereavement support, and fundraising and administrative work. Every hospice volunteers receives specialized training and ongoing support.
The VNA currently has several opportunities for hospice volunteers and will host a 6-part training session on Tuesday evenings beginning July 15. For information on how you can become part of this special group of volunteers or to receive an application, please call Nora Simmons Daly at 303-698-6387.
