Chowin' down dogs for charity

Some serious chowing went down at Steve's Snappin' Dogs, 3525 E. Colfax Ave., in Denver. The restaurant held the first of four qualifiers for a hot dog eating contest June 1, with the final eat-off to take place July 27.

San Wong, 41, of Denver, and Ron Bolseth, 33, of Denver advanced to the finals by putting back three and a quarter hot dogs each in three minutes. The contest is a "dry" hot dog eating contest, which means the contestants can't dunk the dogs in any liquid and must eat them buns and all, though they can add any condiment they see fit.

Brady Weingardt, 21, of Denver, and Sonny de Guzman, 61, of Thornton, put in a strong showing but didn't quite make the cut.

All the contestants enjoyed a well deserved PBR on the house after the contest.

Proceeds from the contest will go to the Colorado AIDS Walk and Project Angel Heart.
