They Will Never Be Forgotten

Three ladies, each representing different organizations, quilted their way into the hearts of 122 veterans; 90 from the Denver VA Medical Center and 32 from the Heather Grove Nursing Home.

Pat Ferguson, a member of Denver Elks Lodge #17, and two of her friends worked for eight months to create the quilts, not for glory or praise, but because the veterans at these two facilities had made a simple comment, that they "would like to have one."

The ability to stitch a little fabric together may not seem like much to many, but doing it with the love and caring that can only come from the heart is not something that everyone can achieve. But, these three ladies did, and I, as a veteran, want to thank Pat and her friends for warming the hearts of each of the veterans that these quilts will touch.

Veterans, who have given so much to this nation when they were needed, and who are often forgotten by the nation, will never be forgotten by the B.P.O. Elks. And, 122 veterans will feel the warmth of those quilts, the warmth of the fabric and the greater warmth that can only come from the loving care of those whose fingers pushed the needles and stretched the quilts into shape, just to give to those who are sick, without families, and often, without homes.
