PR Students: How much do you really know about PR?


PR Students: thought about what you are going to do after you graduate? PRSA Engage '09 event can help you figure it out!

When you hear the term "public relations" or "PR," whatcomes to mind? Perhaps you're pursuing a degree in this field and think youhave it all figured out. Maybe it's a vague term that you've only heard in thenews or on T.V. shows. The truth of the matter is, a career in public relationscan have many definitions, roles and purposes. An individual looking to enterthe public relations field should have a well-rounded knowledge of theindustry, which can be hard to do without the right resources.

The Public Relations Society of America Colorado Chapter hostsan event specifically for students and individuals looking to get a betterunderstanding of public relations. Engage '09: PR for the Next Generation, a one-day seminar, will take place on Saturday,Oct. 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the University of Denver DriscollBallroom. The cost is $15 and includes five educational sessions, opportunitiesto network with other students, Denver's PR pros, and a light breakfast and abox lunch.

Students will hear senior-level practitioners speak on topicsincluding self-marketing with social media, job searching, improving theirwriting skills, and public relations ethics. Students will also be able to interactwith mid-level public relations professionals working in non-profit, agency PR,government, healthcare and corporate industries. The goal of the event is toconnect students with professionals who can offer words of wisdom on theopportunities available in public relations.

Every public relations professional was once a student eagerto find their place in the industry, but needed a starting point and the toolsto make it happen. Engage '09 is an opportunity to access those tools and help youbegin the process of finding your niche in public relations.
