"The Wood Guy"...that's the moniker that Denver artist
Daniel Crosier received at the recent Wizard Con comic show in Texas earlier this month. Among a vast array of traditional comic book artists showcasing their skill, Crosier's work undeniably stood out. Done on poplar and pine panel, with a simple graphite pencil, the pieces offered an organic, unique interpretation of classic comic book characters and his own creations with raw, realistic detail.
Crosier explains what inspired him to start drawing on wood panels. "I have a background in fine art, and have always opted for alternative mediums. I really liked the idea of incorporating wood grain into my drawings. When I began getting published in the comic industry, it seemed like a natural transitions to do some covers and pin ups on wood. It stuck. People really seemed to like the organic feel of the work."
Crosier has been in the comic game for six months, and has already been published by multiple independent books (Positive Brand, Alterna Comics, Novaris Entertainment, and Blue Water Productions) and he's working his way up to the big publishers.
Crosier's currently working on an upcoming book with established writer and well-known industry staple Chuck Saterlee on a project called War Drivers. Crosier is creating all covers and interior panels for this epic story on wood...88 panels by the time the project is complete.
