Lakeside Amusement Park Celebrates 100 Years

Mayor Hickenlooper illuminates more than 100,000 lights in opening ceremony Friday, May 2

WHO: Lakeside Amusement Park, one of the oldest amusement parks in the nation, and the oldest in Colorado in its original location, invites the public and Mayor John Hickenlooper to celebrate its 100th anniversary.

WHAT: Lakeside will turn on more than 100,000 park lights and open its gates to the public to kick off its centennial birthday. Nearly 100 years ago in 1908, Denver Mayor Speer turned on the park lights in front of a crowd of 50,000 people during the Lakeside Amusement Park opening night. Lakeside hopes to recreate this night as an important cornerstone to Colorado history by having Mayor Hickenlooper turn on this year's lights, celebrating a "Century of Fun."
